These are the sort of things that sensible, rational human beings should know are the way to behave. Do people who have never read the Bible think "Oh, hey, I don't like that person, I think I'll murder him - but wait, is murder Right or Wrong? I really can't figure it out for myself. Duh..."
Atheists are often accused of being amoral or immoral - somehow inferior in terms of
morality to theists. In my experience, many atheists base their morality on what they
consider to be acceptable to their society. "Do unto others as you would have others do
unto you" is a quite reasonable way of determining what is Good or Bad :- Really, can you imagine what Moses must have thought when God gave him those stone tablets with the Commandments on? "Don't kill? Don't steal? Don't covet? But of course! Why didn't we mere mortals think of this? No wonder our society is going to the dogs!
