Subject: 99 44/100% athiest

Skipped across your website for the first time today. Liked it alot.

I'm roughly 99 44/100% athiest, and the other teeny tiny part is
Lutheran (people look at me funny when I say I'm an athiest'. Besides,
Lutherans only go to church twice a year anyway).

Okay, I know that 'religion is the opiate of the masses' and many times
in history religion has been used to brainwash and control people, but I
don't understand WHY I still feel that something will happen to me after
I die. Is it denial of my own finality? It is brainwashing from my
Christian upbringing? It may sound silly, but I'm really agonizing over
this.

Another weird thing: WHY do people want to worship stuff that doesn't
exist rather than take responsibility for themselves? We're not cavemen
anymore (except for some of my co-workers).

It's interesting that you were forced to put up e-mail 'rules' to keep
all the religious zealots at bay. Just don't piss them off by telling
'em that pro wrestling isn't real either -- you'll be burned at the
stake!

Now that I'm thinking of it, there's a lot of similarities between a pro
wrestling match and a church service:

1- a lot of idle threats are made
2- you coulda spent your money more wisely someplace else
3- you can't goose the cute chicks
4- all the good parking spots are taken
5- the participants wear silly clothes
6- you're not allowed to fart
7- all sizzle -- no steak
8- the audience members don't act the same way they do when they're at
work
9- weird sexual practices take place behind the scenes
10- GOD isn't there! DUH!!!

Thanx for allowing me to vent.

While I respect your religious beliefs or lack-thereof(I really could care
less :)), I think you've made a mistake. Going into a christian channel to
harass them or to get funny lines to post on your web page is just being
disrespectful to them, did you ask those people in the channel if you could
post their lines of text? If you got permission disregard this e-mail. If
not, I think you should be courteous to them just like we have to be with
every religion in this world. I've been on IRC for 3 years, I know how many
religious channels there are, and I don't bother any of them, and any other
respectful person should do the same. Thank you,

Adrian, I can't help but think how desperate you appear when trying to
dissuade people from their beliefs. I realize not everyone shares the
same if any faith, but,to try and turn people away is certainly a waste
of energy. I also had no strong faith of any kind before my wife started
wanting to go to church. Well we we've been going now for about 8 years
and I must admit just how utterly lost I was before.Have you ever really
read say."The gosplel according to John"? If you have, how can any
thoughtful person flatly reject it? Something,I don't know what, has
really turned you off. Please don't die this way. Give Him another

Hi there,

How can you not believe in ONE GOD. If you want proof of God's
existence then you should read the Holy Quran. The Holy Quran is full
of scientific facts, which prove the existence of ONLY ONE GOD - the
creator of the Heavens and the Earth. The Quran is very cheap to
purchase, if you wish to read it!

I will only read one verse out of the thousands which are in the Quran:

Allah (God) says in the Quran:
"Did you create yourself or were you created out of nothingness?".

In another verse Allah (proper name of God in Arabic), says:

"Surely, if this book (Quran) is from anyone other than Allah (God), it
would have many contridictions in it".

The above verse proves that the Quran is a perfect book of guidence
which has been maintained totally pure from any alteration over the last
1400 years, when it was first revealed to Prophet Mohammed(pbuh).

There are verses in the Quran which challenge the whole of mankind to
produce a book like it or even a chapter. Of course the challenge is
not in English it is in Arabic; the language in which it was revealed to
the Prophet. However, you can get a translation in English.

To say the least the Quran is SIMPLY AMAZING. For example, The Quran
was reavealed 1400 years ago, and it's got accurate infomation which is
only being discovered this century, i.e., embrology, astrology, the
movement of the sun, etc, etc.

You will not understand what I am trying to emphasise until you read
the book.

You owe it to yourself to read it!

E-Mail me if you have any questions.

take care.

You stated quite clearly that you don't want anyone sending you any
"definitions" of atheism.

As a "lifelong" atheist, I seek not to critique the merits of the atheistic
thought-pattern; however, you imply that the deitical skepticism of the
atheist universally crosses over into other "mystical" ideas and/or ideals.
This is, I believe, incorrect. I am not a spiritual person--as an
empiricist, a scientist, and a devout logician, I cannot create cause to
believe where no evidence is provided (ie. Sagan's "god of the gaps"); but
to be so (read: spiritual, mystical, et al.) does not preclude atheism.

As you said, an atheist is simply one who does not believe in god. This is
a concise, literal definition of atheism; and a good one. But when add to
this, "Atheists know that we only get one chance at life. This is it. This
is all you get. No reincarnation, no heaven or hell, no second chances. You
only get one go, and to mess it up or waste it is the most terrible thing,"
you perhaps exceeded the true boundaries of the word. There, as you know,
is no doctrine, no set palette of moral codes or theories/laws, with which
the atheist must paint his universe. Personally, I agree with you: We
don't get a second chance. Nevertheless, for you to claim that all
atheists must share similar beliefs regarding the afterlife is spurious.

I, for example, do not share your opinion that "all life is sacred"; to do
so, in my opinion, is to attach meaning where there is none. This in no
way invalidates your position as an atheist.

Also, your assertion that Xtians only have to "believe in Jesus and be nice
to people to get into heaven" is incorrect. The truth is much more
horrendous; nowhere in the New Testament is it stated that you must "be
nice" to anyone. All the Xtian has to do qualify for heaven is accept
Jesus; this, perhaps, is one reason why the history of western civilization
(or, for you, civilisation) is speckled with zealots and bigots, cocksure
that no matter what monstrosities they brought about, they would still be
entitled to an eternity of bliss. Far from commanding civility between
men, Xtianity condones (and in some instances, encourages) lapses in said
peace.

Thanks for the page,
Eric

P.S. Keep up the excellent work. Although it might help you to remember
that when you speak down to someone, you are unlikely to convert them.
Insults speak only to the converted.

P.P.S. My atheist site: http://www.olypen.com/igor/index.htm , contains a
better description of what I consider atheism to be.

Well, well well. Another person who gets to wait until he dies to find out
weather he was right or wrong. You are very brave. I am glad to see a
man convinced regarding what he believes and why. But it seems that you
believe nothing.

You have fun at your little 666 insignia, your demon email designation,
hoop it up! You are living in a very exciting time. You will get to
accept the computer as god!!! It is people like yourself that will be
taken by the roots of your soul into an eternity that you never believed
existed.

Discount the bible if you choose, first though explain the record that is
continuing to increase day by day. Come on man, are you going to hang your
hat evolution? Are you going to actually disprove the most credible source
on the planet.

Are you one of the ignorant people that accept someone else's bashing of a
book that is now the only source on the planet that records numerous
cities, people by name, events recorded only in the bible and now found to
be accurate as archeological discoveries catch up to the bible? How much
have you studied? Maybe you read some of the nightmare events recorded,
the killing, blood sacrifice, babies dying and decided to not integration
believing in a God such as this. It is a bloody story. Don't make the
mistake of judging the character that you don't approve of and miss the
distinct possibility that He still exists, and you may meet Him someday.
You will get to bring all your concepts with you.

You can argue both sides of the issues regarding evolution and creation.
As you have noticed, science is coming into the creation fold inch by inch,
howbeit kicking and screaming. Your are right, they may not have
identified the creative source as of yet, one step at a time, I guess.

Israel, the nation that will just not go away. Two thousand years ago the
world thought Israel was through. The bible recorded though that the last
generation of life as we would know it, will see Israel, by name, reborn as
a nation. Jerusalem would be a city that will become the center of
worldwide controversy. Israel is the one nation that the recorded history
of the bible concerns itself with. How in the world can you ignore a book
that is one-third prophecy? If you say the bible is full of errors and can
be interpreted many ways, go for it. That is the oldest argument in the
world and the large majority of people that make this blanket statement
have never studied the bible from cover to cover. They look for way to
discredit without a credible study. Looking for any reason not to do a
personal intensive study.

Please give me the most credible fallacies you have discovered. I would
like to have the opportunity to debate you or anyone else on the inearency
of the bible. Deal with the facts of the bibles impact on archeology, the
nation of Israel, the nations named in this generations coming conflict in
the Middle East, the 200,000,000 man army from China, the Euro dollar, the
peace process the world will try to jam down Israels throat, the coming
world disaster in the ecology of the entire planet and the overall
breakdown of order world wide.

It is unfortunate that you apparently have no clue as to the real bible and
the age in which you live and what time it is on the count down. Doomsday?
No, reality!!! Why don"t you try to deal with the real world. There is
hope for you! Keep your eye on the newspaper, between it and the bible you
will figure out that there is a plan and it was established billions of
years ago and is being carried out before your eyes. Just watch Israel and
the United Nations attempt to enact its will. You are going to see the
peace process start and stop! Don't jump on the bash Israel band wagon.
The only support for Israel will be some Jews and Christians. SO, your
chance of supporting the coming geo-political attack on Israel is set. You
will be right there.

Well, this will probably be a giant waste of my time, but just remember.
God said in the bible, "Who blesses Israel I WILL bless, and who curses
Israel I WILL curse."

Watch the events unfold. Don't be fooled.

I am an atheist but believe that religions have taught people to get along
with each other. Religion is for those who need to believe that someone (God)
is always watching them.

I believe that the universe was not created. I believe that it always existed,
just like it always will exist. I believe that the universe extends out
infinitely in all directions. I believe that the number if stars (suns) is
infinite.

The probability that there are other earths exactly like ours with exactly the
same things happening is very remote, nearly impossible, but not totally
impossible.

Keeping in mind that the universe is infinite, what is it that one gets by
multiplying an extremely small fraction by infinity? The answer is INFINITY.
This tells us that there are an infinite number of earths exactly like ours
with exactly the same things happening all over those earths at exactly the
same time. This is still just a small part of the many other things which
exist in the infinite universe.

Whatever one might think of, is happening somewhere at the present time and at
any other time, provided that it is physically and mathematically possible.

Have read your ideas about the universe. You have apparently swallowed
the Big Bang Theory. It is a convoluted theory involving the explosion
of a thing the size of an atom, the Hubbel constant regarding the red
shift, etc., etc. It avoids telling us where the exploding atom came
from (could it have been from God?} Until science can answer that
question the Big Bang Theory has no foundation and consists of a lot of
speculation. Even among scientists there is a dispute about the theory.
In any case it does not contradict the notion of Creationism, as you
call it. If there was a Big Bang it was God's way of creating the
universe. Science has been wrong about many things. You state that in
earlier times "religion" taught that the sun revolved around the earth.
This was not a religious teaching. It was the teaching of the scientists
of the time. Religious institutions and individuals made the ,mistake of
accepting the views of science. That was a mistake and it would be
another mistake to accept everything that science proclaims today,
especially scientific "theories". It is more reasonable to accept that
the universe was created by God than to accept all the speculations
relating to the Big Bang, many of which are disputed by eminent
scientists.

Dear Adrian,

I have just had a look at your 'atheist' web site and wondered whether
you might be able to help.

I work in the Community Programme Unit at the BBC. We are in the early
stages of researching a new six part series of thirty minute 'life-swap'
documentaries scheduled for transmission on BBC 2 in the Spring/Summer of
1998. The series is provisionally called 'Living With The Enemy' and is
based on the idea that, by spending a week living at close quarters with
their perceived ideological enemies, peoples pre-conceptions and
prejudices can be tested against real-life experience. For example,
programmes might include:

An animal-rights supporter from the town, with little actual experience
of livestock or country life could spend a week working on a farm. Will
the animal rights/ farmer stereotypes hold true or is reality more
complicated?
A concerned parent spends a week on tour with the outrageous thrash-metal
band idolised by his teenage son. Does their influence undermine family
values or is it just harmless fun? Will Dad become a fan?
A pacifist joins the Para's for a week of yomping, target practice and
debate on the nature of patriotism. Would a taste of life at the sharp
end convince him of the need for a military deterrent?
A Surrey housewife swaps the Volvo Estate and the detached house in the
suburbs for a caravan in a field outside Brighton. Are these dirty,
smelly, body-pierced hippie scroungers really a threat to decent society?

We would also be extremely interested in setting up a programme in which
a hard-line atheist joins a monastery, or religious retreat of some
kind, for a week of abstinence, prayer, bible reading and theological
debate. We are looking for someone who would be willing (indeed, would
want) to take part and I thought (given the contents of your web site),
it was worth getting in touch. Even if you are not interested, maybe you
know others who are?

If you would like to have a chat, e-mail me your number and I will give
you a call.

Yours sincerely,

Gabe Solomon

I had to decline this interesting offer. I'm really quite shy and get terrible stage-fright. I nearly kacked my pants when I had to give a Best Man's speech at my best friend's Wedding! Also, I'm not sure that the concept would actually work. Getting an atheist to pray and read a Bible for week would be like trying to get a vegetarian to work and eat in a Steak-House for a week. I gave Gabe the URLs of a few other atheist sites, but I doubt she had much luck.

Hello friend,
I read portions of your atheism page and decided to drop you a line. I
was once a strong athiest as well. I was certain that God did not exist.
I began doing research on the falsities involved pertaining to the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was through this research that I became
aware that I was quite wrong. I discovered through empirical, historical,
and scientific evidence that Jesus Christ did die and WAS resurrected just
as surely as I am sitting here in my chair right now. It is irrelevant how
many times you heard arguments for and against the existance of God, the
facts are there proving the existance of God. If you have come to another
conclusion, then I humbly submit to you that you were simply considering
the wrong evidence. Logic and reason allows no other conclusion other than
the existance of God once ALL the facts are compiled and examined by a
truly objective observer. I wish you well on your quest for this
information and I will be happy to help you with this research if you are
truly interested in pursuing truth and scholarly knowledge.

Hi

I have a story which I believe to be true that you might like to hear.
I have worked for the Welfare Department in Los Angeles county for
25 years now. Another employee told me this story, which I believe to
be true. A man came into one of our welfare offices and applied for
General Relief. We require that a person complete an application and
provide us with I.D. and some other documentation. This particular
individual said he was god. The interviewer pointed out that if he
was god he did not need General Relief. The individual stated that it
was a test and that we had better give him General Relief. Eventually
his case was denied because he could not provide I.D.

I'm not here to preach or condemn you to HELLFIRE, but I do not agree
with you and your philosophy. I don't agree with it not only because I
believe in a God, but because of scientific evidence on the subject.
You say in your page on why Noah's Ark couldn't happen that he
would have to transport all the dinosaurs? Uhh.. I've never heard
anything about dinosaurs being alive since 65 Million years ago. Noah and
his ark occured around 4000 years ago. If you want to do some armchair
math, well you probably have time to do this one.
Also in your page, you stated that the smaller fossils are found
farther in the ground. Doesn't it make since that if the farther you go
down, the more weight and pressure you have above you to break and crush
the fossils? If the water does it to rocks, what will it do to a
fragile body? At a depth of 30,000 ft, it would be as if an elephant
were on every sq.in of your body. I doubt that a human or any other
animal could stay intact with that on top of them. I'm glad you used the
American billion because that's a lot of water pressure to break fossils
and corpses.
You ingeniously found an experiment to test if big rocks fall
faster than silt. Did you let the glass sit long enough to see that the
silt and dust fall down eventually and ...what? Float on the big rocks.
Of course not. It falls between the cracks (since rocks aren't liquid)
and fills in the spaces between. (After you edit your paragraph, you may
want to try it.)
Whoever you talked to about the fossils is completely wrong and
probably biased (one of your friends?). Fossils were not formed 4000
years ago, it takes millions of years for phospates and other minerals to
replace the organic carbon and calcium in bones. If it took 40 days, we'd
be making petroleum in factories and would not have an energy semi-crisis
on our hands.
It was only 40 days! The animals weren't eating a gormet 8 course
meal. They were probably only eating barely enough to stay alive. They
were most likely fattened up before they got on the ark as well.
They didn't exactly have to do a lot on the ark, sleep and sit probably.
Not kicking around a soccer ball or playing cricket. They didn't spend a
lot of energy sitting around. Seeds! The plants died, but they have
seeds. Seeds grow into plants. Most seeds can survive 40 days since they
are designed to survive a 6 month winter. In Egyptian pyramids,
archeologists found wheat...and they were able to grow it. 2000 year old
wheat can grow. Some more armchair math for you. Many plants also have
extensive root systems that survive the harshest of conditions. They
regrow immediatly after the danger is left. (Fires? Snow? Floods?)
So after taking all this elementary thought into perspective, I
have decided that the flood did indeed happen. I don't intend to change
the way you think (we all have free agency) but I just wanted to bring you
some light from the world of reality. At least take this into
consideration next time you want to express your opinion to the ENTIRE
WORLD it may save you a lot of dignity.

Thanks for reading this!

Sincerely, Noah

Firstly, a complement on your website. I find a lot of Atheist websites either abusive or

Your, humble, suggestion for an Atheist sign.... may I offer a, even more humble, suggestion.

How about a white circle on a black background. The reason being the more extremist fundies
would delight in pointing out that your suggestion is black.... 'ooohh 'tis the sign of the

Apart from that, minor, point, I think that this is a fine symbol. Simple and not aimed at

E=MC2 The equation for the atom bomb. It says that matter and energy are the
same thing. So then what is that? Matter, look at a brick. Its in a three dimensional
form. Its made of electrons, protons and neutrons (atoms) and they are moving so
the brick is moving. Energy, sunlight. Its in a three dimensional form. It comes to us
from the sun therefore it is moving. 3D and moving Both matter and energy are 3D
and moving. I outproduce Einstein. We already know all matter has gravity. The
bending of light shows that energy has gravity also. So matter and energy are
3D moving with gravity. The universe is made of matter, energy, time and space.
That just stated is the matter and energy part. Time and space. Take everything
in the universe and stop it. Does time progress? No. Therefore time is the motion
and the understanding of all the motion is the understanding of all of time.
Space, it ends. Space does not go on forever. Space is in a three dimensional
form. It moves but does not have gravity. Space moves like this. O /\ + \/ O
And that is the understanding of all of time.
O This is what was first in the beginning.
/\ This is the old kings and queens.
+ This is democracy.
\/ This is socialism.
O This is when the Lord Jesus Christ returns.
And that is the understanding of the universe. Glory be to the Father the Son
and the Holy Ghost. Revelation chapter 10 & 11; 15-19. It is very important the

Great site.
I read the funny (stupid) things that theists say page.
I've got one.

In debating evolution with a catholic for some time, he finally decided
that the only reason so much evidence backed the theory was this: God is so
smart that he planted all this stuff just to test our faith.

After I was done laughing, I just gave up.

You are right. The soul is not immortal as many religions teach.
The BIBLE itself says that the soul that is sinning shall die.

I was studying electrical engeneering at Purdue University about six
months ago when I had an experience that changed my life.

I inadvertantly had contact with the spirit realm. It does exist!

Let me tell you that my view on creation was leaning to non-belife
in a GOD.

This has changed. God is real and I have proof.

Most all religions are false but through the scientific method
I have found the TRUE religion.

If you would like to know more about my contact with the spirit realm
