I'm going to try to be a little more organised with my feedback pages now, as they seem to be nearly as popular as the rest of the site. So I shall start dividing the feedback up into annual sections, starting with 1999. (Well, okay, there are a few old ones as well that were buried in my email and I've only just dug them out.)
Of course, if many of the people who write to me are correct, there will be no need for any additional sections after Jan 1st 2000. We shall just have to wait and see, eh?

From: Brian Mahoney Date: Fri, 1 Jan 1999 Subject: Thanks for your page The only reason I believe there is a God is given to me by science. Do not conclude that I believe in religion. I do not. Only hypothesis can lead us back to the beginning of existance or positive matter. The best speculation that science can come up with is that the overwhelming absence of anything caused the creation of something (Big Bang in a nutshell). The Arabs came up with the mathmatical concept of zero. Absolute nothing. Yet science tends to believe in the negative side of the scale as a proof for positivism. Absolute nothing is not a force. It is nothing, therefore, nothing can come of it. If, before positive matter existed, there were a force and it tended or was by nature, entirely negative. That nature came from somewhere. Matter or anti-matter do not contest each other. They are realms unto themselves. If an outside force changes them then they change. Only an outside force, a force able to dispence with the small rules we gather called physics could cause creation. I suggest to you that you think on too small a scale. Content to argue with sheep, as if railing will prove a point. You will not change the minds of the faithful. God is here, we won't know what he wants but it is in our best intrest to apoligise constantly because there is no chance that we measure up. 1999 is off to a good start already... |

From: Arinelle Date: Wed, 6 Jan 1999 Subject: get this recently i was threatened with suspension from my high school for refusing to change a shirt that read "atheism outlives all gods." the principal claimed that a student had complained that it offended him and his beliefs... yet, the principal did nothing when i countered with a complaint against the W.W.J.D? (what would jesus do or why would jesus die or something to that effect) paraphanelia seen around every corner. what about my beliefs? do they not count? people are so touchy... the principal dropped the case but i am still irritated that something like that should occur. feel free to post this in the feedback section; i think others should have a chance to read about this unfairness.
thanks, ps. your site is awesome! it's much easier to stand up to criticism after reading some of the material which reinforced my beliefs. |

Date: Tue, 22 Dec 1998 From: Russell Wear Subject: noah The story you told about the great flood could have happened right. I don't think so. It describes the day of noah to be horrible times in morality. You talk about everything being okay. The mother was probably doing something to the baby you couldn't even imagine and you wanna know where her husdand was. He was drunk having a big orgy while thinking of leaving his wife. Noah gave everyone a chance to come with him. I think it is like dropping the bomb on Japan, we gave warning, and everyone had a chance to leave but they didn't. You might not agree with dropping that bomb but I can't say I agree either. Some of those people were good people, maybe even all of them. Your story would work there but not in the day of Noah. These people were not about to change, they would have destroid themselves anyways. If you want to make fun of that story do it correctly. You are pobably a very intelligent person that would have no trouble mocking this letter, but I am just triing to get your facts straight. I do believe in noah's arc and god. If you would like to e-mail me to tell me I am wrong then feel free. My e-mail adress is [snipped. Ed.] I hope to hear from you, even though you get thousands of e-mail everyday. If you feel I am right then I suggest taking that page off because your purpose for the page is to say what might of happened in corresponding with the bible to make god look bad and evil, but it doesn't fit with the bible so if you keep it on you are being a hipocrit. I could be wrong(if you can prove me wrong) so I might see this page here for a long time. I just want to help your page be as accurate as possiblt. Hope to hear from you. Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 From: rhiannon Subject: those crazy christians...
well! youve expanded since i was last here. iwent to that
wretched little prophesy site you had a link to, and i
would have to agree that your title for it is MUCH better.
anyway, i live in colorado springs, the seat of focus on
the family, colorado for family for family values, and the
like. this is the state that renders the conceot of a 2
party system useless. my husbands family is the prime
example. were trying to warp his little brother, before he
is old enough to vote, and listens only to the teachings of
his preacher person. religion has done more to harm that
family than any good it may have done. not that i see any
of that. there is an older brother, flaming gay, who is
convinced that he is evil for his lustful ways, and the sad
thing is that he is one of the cooler people in the family.
but he makes the occasional snide comment, or gets
offended, or whatever. as you may have heard, this is also
the state that passed an amendment to the state
constitution that basically rendered homosexuals vulnerable
to whatever abuse fundies thought was appropriate. (see
also the case of the two rednecks that picked up a gay man
in wyoming and beat hin to death.) they tried to ban
abortion. theyve made it illegal for a young girl to get an
abortion without parental consent. i have a damn good
reason why that wont work. in a place like this, do you
really think that hte father of a girl who was brutally
raped and had the ill fortune to concieve would have the
sence to realise that it was not the girls fault? i dont
think so. they are trying to put prayer in schools, like
the children dont have enough problems. all i can say is
look at the past thirty years in northern ireland. (and
lets hope this peace will actually workif it already hasnt,
then i guess ive been really out of touch.)a few years ago,
a christian magazine published an article regarding the
alleged satanists in manitou springs, the next town over
(actually, theyre kind of joined) saying that theyd finally
driven out the scourge. id say that it helped that there
werent any there to begin with, except for a few little
high schoolers, trying to rebel against their parents. and
as there is "only one god and religion", then the only
rebelion is satanism, isnt it? ;) blah. anyway, i prefer
satinism, and the worship of satin velveteen laceifer, the
textile demon. :D there are lots of witches here, pagans,
heathens, and wiccans, and theyre heckled mercilessly.the
christians are not the ones under attack, here, as much as
they may claim to be. and if there are those who do leave
the religion, id like to think its for a greater wisdom and
knowlege. |

Date: Wed, 7 Oct 1998 Adrian, I agree that atheism needs a symbol, but I don't like the black circle. Mainly because it doesn't mean anything. You list that it's simple, it's whole, etc., etc. That's all very good, but those characteristics are not exclusively associated with a circle. Furthermore, there is no history behind the association of a black circle with atheism. For example, I believe the peace symbol is meant to represent the foot of a pigeon, which has been associated with peace. (Was it Bertrand Russell who came up with that symbol?) Now that's a meaningful symbol. You can say the same for the cross & the five-pointed star. (I am not sure where the Moslem crescent came from). Moreover, black is generally a morbid, depressing color. A black circle reminds me of a symbol the members of an organization like "The League of the Descendants of the Survivors of the Black Plague" would wear. I think we need a more cheerful & more meaningful symbol; but I don't know what that could be. Anyway, these are some thoughts. Have fun! Aydin Orstan |
|
From: Victor Subject: atheist symbol Date: 20-Jan-99 Hey there, Adrian, the circle image is not bad, except I have a hard time drawing a circle. The ends don't usually meet, and it's difficult to form a graceful curve. thanks anyway. Victor
Hmmm.. A tricky question, and one that I have pondered over long
and hard. I would suggest finding some sort of round object, and using
it as a kind of template to draw around. Possible objects would be cups,
coins, CDs and tyres, depending on the size you wish to achieve. If
you cannot find something of the correct dimensions, use one as close
as possible and then take the resulting image to a local photocopy shop,
where they will be able to enlarge or reduce the image as necessary. |

I'm sure you probally like ugly women like terri hatcher or meg ryan! well if your site was intended to diss pamela then this message is for you if not than dissregard this message! Have you ever just looked at pamela? Have you ever seen her early playboy appearences and seen her with less makeup looking beautiful? She has pefect features and a body to match!! I'm a sexy woman, thin, long hair full lips and i do enjoy to wear makeup and dress sexy and i am so sick of men who rather see womenlooking like sandra bullock in sweatpants and a t-shirt than like marilyn monroe in a tight dress and high heels! did you forget what women looked like around the same time as marilyn monroe? about the same as pamala anderson! There is a double standard in this world, women like sharon stone (cheekbones implants), demi moore (breast implants), and cher (countless things) all have had plastic surgery yet they are not considered fake!! pamela has acting talent, people are blinded by ignorance, all they want to see is a blonde bimbo, well actually pamela is very true to her roles and never seems to come off like she's acting. did you watch saturday night live when she hosted it? she was so funny and so true to her comedic performance! not everyone needs to be the same, i don't feel that the only actors that should get credit for good acting should be serious actors in drama of theater! it takes all kinds in this world! your site is rude and unneccesary!! strain her sense of humour. (Is Lashana a woman's name? I don't know..) |

From: [name withheld] Subject: Jehovah's Witnesses Page Date: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 Hi! I enjoyed your page on the Jehovah's Witnesses. I agree that they do damage. I myself was kicked out for divorcing my alcoholic, wife beating ex-husband. (since they dont recognize divorce, they think that anyone who divorces and remarries is an adulterer) My twenty plus years of faithful service counted for nothing. It almost ruined my life. I had no family, friends, or education, (since they frown on higher education) and started life over, all alone, at 36. It was a bitter pill to swallow. |

Date: Sat, 06 Feb 1999 From: Esther Jagobin Subject: Prayer and the brain Hi, I read your pages and would like to comment on the article about the physical structure of the brain determining our personality. I agree with this thought. I also believe that what we feed the mind with, will determine its physical wiring and thus our personality. By feeding I mean reading, thinking, hearing, seeing etc. Also prayer would feed the brain in the same way. If this is so then will not prayer have the same effect of altering the brain's structure? Once the brain's physical structure has been altered by the prayer, wont our personality change? Will it not then appear as if God has answered our prayer? What do you think? |

Love or hate can't be measured in a test tube or analyzed in a lab ...yet they have existed well before we were here... just to say God believers are closed minded well...Looks like they're not the only ones. I don't get into long e-mail debates but am willing to do a live debate any time. If you ever get to the states or on my next trip to Europe maybe we could face off. The straw man you have erected will be very easy to knock down. I suggest you watch some of the previous debates I have on video to be prepared. We have put out over 500,000 videos now in several languages. We have them in PAL for you If you like. They are not copyrighted. You may get some tapes, copy them and return them for a full refund. It would only cost you for the shipping. My web site is drdino.com. Enjoy it! God does love you by the way. For those who don't know, Dr Hovind is a famous (or infamous?) creationist. A critique of some of his arguments can be found here. Also of interest is Patriot University where he acquired his Doctorate... |

I just read your many(very well made!!!) pages and have noticed that a lot of the ideas that atheists have are also tribal values of my Nation. Rarely do we ever connect morality with spirituality. From: koukou bohaka Subject: Assalamo alaykom Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 Dear friend, As you may think, I am a Moslim reader of your web site. It happens to me to read your articles as I read Moslim, Jewish or Christian materials. Your atheist concepts are surely influenced by the Christian culture (you say that are in UK). But in UK, it is not so difficult to read and dicover other religions. Are you sure that other religions are not conflicting with modern knowledge and science. Please consider these examples :
- "Do the unbelievers not realize that the heavens and the earth used to
be one solid mass that we exploded into existence?
And from water we made all living things. Would they believe?" Is there any contradiction with the Big Bang Theory and our modern knowledge about the begining of life ?
- "And it is We who have built the universe with our power; and, verily,
it is We who are steadily expanding it.
And we made the earth habitable; a perfect design." This is exactly the theory of the expansion of the universe.
- "Is it not a fact that there was a time when the human being was
nothing to be mentioned?
We created the human from a liquid mixture, from two parents, in order
to test him. Thus, we made him a hearer and a seer."
"And Allah created every living creature from water. Some of them walk
on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. Allah
creates whatever He wills. Allah is Omnipotent."
"He is the One who perfected everything He created, and started the
creation of the human from clay.
Then He continued his reproduction through a certain lowly liquid.
He shaped him and blew into him from His spirit. And He gave you the
hearing, the eyesight, and the brains; rarely are you thankful."
"Say: Travel in the earth and see how He makes the first creation, then
Allah creates the latter creation; surely Allah has power over all
things."
"He is the One Who created you in stages." As we can see, there is no conflict between Evolution Theory and Qur'aan's teaching.
- "Let him beware! If he do not stop, We will take him by the naasiyah
(front of the head), a lying, sinful naasiyah (front of the head)!"
- "He is the One who created the two kinds, male and female, from a tiny
drop of semen.
"Does the human being think that We will not reconstruct his bones ?
Yes indeed; We are able to recreate even his fingerprint." Important concepts of genetics explained in 2 verses. The naasiyah (the prefontal area of the cerebrum)is responsible for planning, motivating, and initiating good and sinful behavior, and is responsible for telling lies and speaking the truth. Thus, it is proper to describe the front of the head as lying and sinful when someone lies or commits a sin, as the Quraan said: ...a lying, sinful naasiyyah (front of the head)! Scientists have only discovered these functions of the prefrontal area in our century. These are very few examples of how the Holy Qur'aan is acurate and true. How can we explain the authorship of this book with Atheism? Sorry for my poor English. Wassalam. |

From: Rick Wiedeman Subject: well done Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 I enjoyed your site immensely. I am currently a Methodist, and was considering dabbling in Unitarianism, but then started thinking (yes, thinking!) why not skip the intermediary step and chuck the whole thing? The ironic thing is that what lead me to this choice is the year-long Bible study course I am completing. While everyone else's faith seems to have increased, mine has waned. What a chaotic tome! And what a deity we have created. Omniscient, yet changes his mind. Omnipotent, yet can be wrestled and defeated. Omnipresent, yet can be lied to. Curses every generation of man for something our mythical ancestors did, and yet says we have free will. Anthropomorphism in action. Thanks for a intelligent site that helps curb the gut feeling (from my 30+ years of Christian conditioning) that I am going to hell for thinking clearly. Rick Wiedeman

Date: Thu, 24 Dec 1998 From: michelle roberts Subject: stars in the sky dear dear adrian, this letter intends not to preach or reiterate the loads and loads of pretentious crap i'm sure you receive day in and day out. its merely the doctrine of a good christian girl turned atheist. i very much enjoyed your website. when i was a little girl i used to get up early on sundays and play in the dirt. sundays werent special, because i played in the dirt every day. when i was 5 a house was built up beside mine and a family moved in. they were horrified when they found out i didnt go to church. so they took me with them. and they took my mum and dad and sister too. then we all went to church. and i joined the choir and the church plays and went to sunday school. and i forgot about my dirt and getting up early on sundays to play in it. i had to wear dresses on sundays and comb my hair. when i was younger i believed in helping people, and loving my neighboors, and voting for leftists who would change the world for the better. and i'd get to heaven this way, you see, i'd get to heaven this way. i've stopped combing my hair recently. i havent stopped helping people, or loving my neighboors, but i joined the conservative party, and stopped watching oprah. i'm not going to heaven, you see, i'm not going to heaven you see. i'm going to be buried in the ground, with a stone to mark my place. and i'll lay there in the dirt, with my hair combed, wearing a dress for a hundred years or so. until the stone crumbles. then i'll be nothing more than dirt myself and someone can build a building over me. when i was a little girl i used to get up early on sundays and play in the dirt. today i got up early and played in the dirt. be well, your comrade, michelle.

From: Johny Massouras Subject: this stuff rocks! Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999
well i don't know how to start, but i guess i should introduce myself. My
names john and i'm living in cyprus at the moment.(which sucks) i happen to
be an 18 year old half greek/cypriot guy, with an american accent.(go
figure).Anyway, about 2 days ago i stumbled on ur web page about atheism, and
i gotta admit, it's the best fucking page i've ever read on the net.(can i
say fuck?or is it a blasphemy?=) i was once a believer but like u (and also
a help from another atheist), i stopped and thought to myself.."what the
fuck is actually going on here?" reading philosphy as i do, i came upon
friedrich nietzsche, who had a great impact on me. especially the way he
attacks christianity and talks about how it functions. So this all got my
curiosity going, and thus, i started searching and trying to find out what
atheism was/is all about. i became an atheist before reading your site, but
by reading it i understand it more and makes soo much "goddamn" sense to
me.beleiving in myself and searching for answers through intellect and
reason, i find myself doing things that i would have never of been able to
do as a "believer".somehow i've become more witty...by that i mean, i tend
to answer alot of things to people about almost anything, and they can never
have an arguement without losing.(but thats beside the point).almost
everyday i have debates and discussions with students in my college (i study
computer engineering/science), about religion, u should see the stuff they
come up with. All in all they don't know what they r believing in, why they
believe in it, and how it affects there everyday lives. It's so annoying to
find so many passive an apathetic people, who think they know everything and
always consider themselves correct, when they never have considered other
alternatives which life itself can or could offer. As a believer i felt
limited, shy basically, anything i did i had to think twice and see if it was
morally "good" or "bad" in the eyes of my religion.(christianity).But now i
feel free, a void has actually been filled, and i'm getting to know and
learn my true self, without having to worry about religion.it feels so
relieving and beautiful. The people around me have noticed this too (as if i
care), and are always like.."hey john, why are u so happy all the time?".
i've had comments like.."u should have been a philosopher" or.."ur soo
fucking wise man!". where deep down all i'm doing is using simple reason and
intellect to deal with everyday situations. not everything goes as planned,
but this is where u need it the most right? heh, and it helps a great deal.
so keep up the good work and thank you very much for creating ur page to
share ur wonderful views with us. |

From: John Armstrong Subject: hmmm Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 I will not debate you. The real question is faith. I have faith that God did what was said. You have faith you came from a monkey. I have faith I will live forever in paradise. You have faith you will die and turn to nothing. (note: If I and million others are right then we will be in heaven and you will burn in hell. If you are right then my outcome is the same as yours.) You have a lot of faith. 2000 years ago in Matt 24. Jesus stated that Israel would be reborn. 100 years ago this would have been unheard of. Yet, in 1948 it happened. The old testament predicts that the Hebrew language would die the come back into existents. Hmmm, looks like they were right again. Daniel in the old testament predicted the Roman Empire would fall then be reborn. John on the island of Pathmos predicted the same thing. Hmmmm, look at EU and the Euro. I am not here to debate you, Just to congratulate you on the amount of faith you have in becoming nothing. See, to me it takes more faith to believe that on every continent a fish swam up on the beach and grew lungs then feet then a good brain then became a monkey then became a man. Then to believe that God created it all. John C. Armstrong |
