It all started when i was like 14, and for some reason i asked my mom, "What's the bestselling book of all time?" and she told me, "The Bible of course." So i went and i got the bible and started to read it. When i read the old testament, i couldn't believe that people worshipped a god that killed people who done "evil" things, but who he gave free choice to in the first place! Thats like saying, you can have the ice cream, but if you do, i'll kill ya. It's just a crazy contradiction. Well, instead I looked at the New Testament since i always heard that Jesus was a nice guy. I've read him and i couldn't believe his incredible teachings! BUT...there was 2 things that told me he couldn't be the son of God or God himself: 1) I didn't believe that he broke 7 baskets of bread to 7 thousand people! It logically doesn't make sense! Now if the bible lied about that (which they probably did) then who knows what mumbo jumbo they made up about Jesus! 2) When Jesus died on the cross, he said, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me!?" Now even Christ himself had fear of death and was actually thinking the God, he thought was real, left him to die! Now doesn't it seem that Christ himself actually was doubting God's existence there? So i instead got into philosophy and read this incredible quote by Buddha himself. It says... "It is proper to doubt. Do not be led by holy scriptures, or by mere logic or inference, or by appearances, or by the authority of religious teachers. But when you realize that something is unwholesome and bad for you, give it up. And when you realize something is wholesome and good for you, do it." Now don't think i worship Buddha or anything. Even Buddha himself said "Don't worhip me, i'm no God." But the quote above smacked me right in the head and woke me up! It tells me that all religous teachers out there have these silly "holy wars" on a being they really don't know if it exists or not! Faith isn't knowing 100%, faith doesn't really help. It's like saying two blind men are fighting because one believes the sky is blue while the other believes the sky is green! But the sky can be white for all they know or if the sky even exists! Do you get what I'm saying? I don't want to deny the existence of God because i'm not sure if this being does exist. And i don't believe the existence of God because i'm not sure if this being does not exist. It seems that both view points are equally matched. And another thing. The contradictions and paradoxes say it all! Richard Kochanski |
