From: Zoey To: adrian
Adrian, You said on your website that atheists could email you telling
their reasons on being an atheist. I thought this would be a perfect
excuse to finally get my lazy to butt to email you. There is so much I
have wanted to say to you. First Ill tell you a little about myself. I go
by the name Zoey and Im 16. I am an atheist, but I belong to a religion (if
you can call it that) called the Unitarian Universalist (UU). Ever heard of
them? Ive been going there since I was 5 years old, so my religious veiws
of "God" has been very open, though I did believe in "God" till I was 13
(when I was 12 I kept bouncing back and forth). Im from the USA (Christian
country I know), and I live in a fairly deep religious town. Its hard to
explain why I became an athiest at such a young age. I think my religion
did have something to with it, but for the most part science convinced me
that there was more to this world and universe than what some "God" tells
us. I kept learning more and more about how this universe REALLY works and
the Bible seemed just seemed more and more, well...... silly and
unrealisitic.... Like some children's story or fable. So somewhere between
my 7th and 8th grade year I became an athiest. I would have become one
sooner, but in a sense it was hard to let go. I was afraid of what might
happen if I did say THERE IS NO GOD, but when I did, no demons from hell
came to get me or God's wrath wringing in my ears. The world went on as if
nothing happened. This peace came over me and a weight had been lifted off
my chest. I was free. No higher power was going to tell me what to do or
what was right and wrong. That was MY decision now and still is. The
great thing about being an athiest is now I know I am my own judge and
jury. When I die, I get the satifaction of knowing that I will not go to
some other "world". I will not know Im dead and I will not care. I have
argued with many Christians since I have gotten to highschool. In fact
thats all I did my Freshman year. Now I realize that argueing is rather
pointless in my Sophomore year. One day the religion Christanity will be
heard only in the history books. All of the major religions of the past
have risen and fallen to another religion. What stopping Christianity from
having the same fate? Absolutely nothing. Email me if you wish. I would
love to hear from you. It isnt very often that I get to converse with a
fellow athiest. I love your website. Keep it up. |
